welcome to the Timian project

These pages describe "Timian", an analog extension designed to increase report format flexibility and to encourage new report formats to be written.

summary

Timian is an output formatter for analog, the weblog analyser. Although Timian consists of a number of different elements, it is essentially just a custom XSLT processor. Given appropriate XSLT code it will transform an analog XML document into (almost) any kind of desired output.

Timians focus is on providing flexibility and freedom such that you're not locked into what analog can and cannot do.

Timian?

a photograph of a thyme plant Regarding the name "Timian", it has no particular importance nor meaning - not in this context at least. "Timian" is the Danish name for "Thyme", an old and well-known herb used in cooking.

some sample reports

Have a look at what Timian can do - I'm maintaining a collection of sample reports.

the analog XML document?

Of course, if you're only here to look for information regarding the analog XML document, you're in the right place too.

summary

There isn't actually much to be said about the XML format. Although it is formatted for human readability, it is not intended for human consumption, but rather for use by a post-processor that understands XML, one example being Timian.

If you're looking for detailed information regarding the XML format itself, perhaps for building a post-processor, I suggest you have a look here: "Analogs XML document format".
