the timian.jessen.ch server

Not exactly of any importance to the timian project whatsoever, but for reasons of completeness, and since the server relocation/replacement has been mentioned, I thought a brief summary would be appropriate.

timian.jessen.ch - old

Initially, the timian webserver was setup on the following:

  • Dual Intel Celeron 533MHz processors
  • 256M RAM
  • 4Gb RAID-1 array off an Adaptec 2940UW
  • 100Mbps Netgear network interface

Fully sufficient hosting the timian webserver as well as a few others. However, the dual Celeron board proved to be very sensitive to heat, and as we had at least one critical air-conditioning failure, the server was not as stable as I would have preferred. So by beginning of June 2003 I decided to replace it:

timian.jessen.ch - new

As of July 14 2003 timian.jessen.ch was moved to a new upgraded server platform:

  • Intel Celeron 2.4GHz
  • 1Gb DDR RAM
  • 60Gb RAID-1 array on ATA/133
  • 100Mbps builtin network interface

This server is not for the exclusive use of timian, but also hosts other sites, as well as being a mail-server and a few other things.
